The Unknown

Medium: oil paint and ink on canvas

The Unknown explores the idea that when sight is taken away, we may begin to see in a different way. Without his eyes, the man is invited to feel: to become aware of the energy, intuition and inner knowledge that physical vision alone cannot reach. Warm browns, oranges, golds and natural tones root him in the earth and ground the painting. Across his covered eyes and around his body, intuitive symbols begin to appear, the unseen language of energy that may have always surrounded him but could not be perceived through sight. The unknown can feel frightening because it asks us to release certainty. It can also open a deeper awareness. Not everything meaningful needs to be clearly seen or logically understood.
